As I said on Friday the Anfield fixture is my least favorite match of United’s season. Nothing good seems to ever come from it, and frankly at the beginning of the season I pencil an L next to it every year (oddly, I did the same for the Craven Cottage fixture when Fulham was in the Premier League as well).
This year doesn’t seem to be any different. United come in riding some very inconsistent form while Liverpool come in red hot. As much as I hate to say it I think if United want to have any chance in this one they’ll have to use Carrick in the center of the park, Daley Blind at left back and play Fellaini up top. Just make it an ugly mucky game. That doesn’t mean leave Juan Mata on the bench, but it does mean you need to muck it up in the midfield to prevent Liverpool from letting Sturridge and Sterling get big breaks against the back four. Pretty much they need to play old time English football.
I don’t have the team selection posted as it’s an 9:30 AM match and the current plan calls for me to sleep right up until 8:25 AM, so I’m writing this well in advance.
I will be awake and ready to go by the 9:30 kickoff so as always follow me @pkwestelWFAN where I’ll be live tweeting the match.
